Talk to Mrs. White. (Be sure to tell her that she missed a spot.)

“You missed a spot.” You point out to Mrs. White who shoots you an angry look.
“It’s hard being the only staff working in a house this size.” Mrs. White says polishing the afore mentioned spot that she missed.
“I heard that Sergeant Gray works around here.” You respond
“All he does is fix that car in the Carriage House.” Mrs. White says, “He tinkers with it day in and day out.”
“Good God,” you mutter, “How many pianos does this place have.”
“Three.” Mrs. White says, “One in the Drawing Room, one in here, and an old one that doesn’t work anymore down in the cellar.”
“Mind if I have a look?” you ask
“Mr. Boddy requested that none of his guest go upstairs or in the cellar.” Mrs. White says
“I’m family.” You respond
“Be that as it may, I’m only to warn people that he doesn’t want people upstairs or in the cellar.” Mrs. White says sternly

You enter the very tiny Cloak Room for whatever reason. Seeing how it is springtime there aren’t many coats at all. Just some old winter furs belonging to Miss Scarlet, and a few jackets belonging to Mr. Boddy. There are two chairs in the back of the room and a pair of boots under the chair to the left.

Exit Cloak Room
Search Miss Scarlet's furs
Search Mr. Boddy's jackets.
Search Cloak Room

Can we lock the door first? If so, Search Boddy's jackets. If not, search cloak room.

You quickly bolt the Cloak Room from the inside and search Boddy’s jackets. While searching his favorite light grey sweater you come across a note written in blue ink.
‘John, if you want this plan to work, you need to keep your guests away from the second floor. Make some excuse about the beds not being made or something. Stay professional and stick with the plan.’
“What is it with people writing plans on notes.” You mutter to yourself, “They are just begging to be found.”
Continuing to search Mr. Boddy’s jackets you come across a safe in the wall behind an old black trench coat.
“Damn,” you mutter, “If only I knew the combination.”

Exit Cloak Room
Enter Combination into Safe
Search Miss Scarlet's furs
Search Cloak Room

Try Boddy's birthday as the combination.

You try you Uncle’s birthday as the combination. Voila! The safe opens with a dull clanking sound. Inside is a stack of letters. You begin to sift through them.
‘You thought you would die? By denying death, death will claim you.’
You flip to the next one which is dated a month ago.
‘The more you spend precious money on cheap pleasures, the more it will ruin the life of those you left to die.’
Your mind is reeling as you continue to read these strange notes. The next one is dated a week ago.
‘Turning to alcohol won’t stop what you did. You are a cold blooded murderer of the worst kind.’
A chill goes down your spine as you read the finale note which is dated yesterday.
‘As the Clock Strikes 8, I’ll Seal Your Fate, As the Clock Strikes 9, I’ll Severe Your Spine, As the Clock Strikes 10, murder will begin…’

Would we be allowed to take the letter?

Deciding this may be helpful evidence in the future you pocket the four letters in the same pocket as the Revolver.

You decide to make you time in the Cloak Room worth the risk of being caught and rummage through Miss Scarlet’s fur coats. You find a gold lipstick tube with the initials GP inscribed on them. You also find a decorative Knife in a pocket hidden on the inside of the coat. You examine the Knife and see ‘Made in Macao’ on the blade.

You take the knife, leaving the Revolver on the chair.

Leaving the Revolver is probably not a good idea. Take it instead of the Knife, and exit the cloakroom.

It doesn't seem much safer to leave the knife behind. I say lock the revolver in the safe.
EDIT: Black's got a better idea. I vote for his idea.

I'd say keep the revolver for protection and lock the knife in the safe.
