*HELP* MASSIVE CLUEDO COLLECTION

Post by chrispurs2012 » Sat Jan 14, 2012 6:22 pm

Hi all,

My dad has recently died and in his possessions he has left behind an enormous Cluedo collection. The collection consists of various versions of the classic game, identical games in different languages and other related memorabilia.

I was wondering if anyone could provide me with any assistance in what I should do with this collection?

As you can imagine, attempting to sell each individual item will be very time consuming so an auction house may be my best bet.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this. I appreciate any feedback given.

Thanks,

Chris :D

Chris, first let me say I'm sorry for your loss.

What an interesting man he must have been to have such an elaborate Cluedo collection.

Not sure an auction house would be appropriate here. They will most likely take far too much commission for what you would get for it. Chances are, a collector will not be interested in the entire lot, and unless they are mint-condition, still factory sealed games, they are not likely to be of any interest to a serious collector at that level.

EBay is likely the best way to go. You could catalogue the entire collection, take a few pictures of a group of games, and offer it as a single lot at first to see how well you might do. depending on what's in it, a collector most likely would take the entire lot to get a few desirable pieces, then take the responsibility of selling those they don't want off your hands while ensuring they get a good home.

Alternately, you could take them to a local eBay Assitant who will sell them on consignment, and likely for much less than an auction house.

A final thought occurs, that depending on where you live, one of us might take the lot off your hands and/or sell it for you in exchange for first crack at some of the games.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your kind words and advice.

I will consider the Ebay option and potentially seek out the services of an Ebay Assistant.

All my Dad's items remain factory sealed - so regarding your fourth option, I will generate a list of the collection and enter it onto this forum in case a collector is interested (there may even be a rare game!)

Many thanks again. I appreciate your response a lot.

Sorry to hear about your dad. If he was a collector, i wonder if he was a member of one of the forums related to the game. Perhaps we know who he is?

I'm very interested to see the list of games. Perhaps you could post a picture of the collection?
How do you know what kind of pictures they are if you're such a lay-dee?

If he was a member his username would most likely have been rogwyn.

I will look at generating a catalogue and picture of the collection for all interested parties.

Thanks

I have to say, this changes things somewhat. Definitely post a list of items here, so we can advise accordingly. However, if these games are factory sealed, they could potentially fetch quite a lot. Still not sure an auction house is the place to sell them, but depending on what's in the collection, it could be an option.

I am also sorry for your loss.

It's interesting, though, because just the other day I was thinking about what would happen to my collection one day when I eventually pass. I wanted to share my decision because I think it's a neat idea.

I will leave instructions to have my entire collection piled on a table at my wake. As the visitors leave, they will get to take one of the games with them. It's a very personal keepsake that they can take with them to remember me by.

I've always said that when the Smithsonian turns down the donation, just burn it all in a big bon fire.

I think if you'd take some photos - particularly of the foreign Cluedo versions even if it's just groups - it would be helpful. I'd be interested in any I don't already have.
