Black you are now saying:
I can reveal that once again you have 0 out of 3 correct. So we can eliminate the Drawing Room as the scene of the crime. The penknife was not the wepaon used, and the Colonel is innocent.
ProfSvestka, your turn please.

I can reveal that you have still got 1 out of 3 correct.
To help you guys along, I can reveal an extra clue:- The murderer has given themselves away.
Black's question.

Black you are now suggesting:
The investigation seems to be stuck in a rut. You have got 1 out of 3 correct.
ProfSvestka's question next.

ProfSvestka you are now suggesting:
I can reveal that it was the Smoking Room, it was the Billiard Cue and it was the Reverend Green!
GREEN: ‘Oh God, forgive me. I didn’t really intend to kill him. I heard Miss Peach and the Professor in the Library. I couldn’t believe what was happening, that Steele was going to blackmail Peach into getting a different vicar to conduct the wedding. All I had done was to counsel his ex-wife when she came to see me some years ago. He was an abusive husband, and so I told her about support groups and that she would be better off without him. So she left him, and he blamed me. I was going to sit in the Conservatory, when I saw Steele heading towards the Smoking Room. I followed him, but when I got there he was searching around on the floor for something over by the window, so I nipped into the Billiard Room to see what he was up to.
Suddenly thinking about everything made me feel really angry. This wedding was to be the highlight of the year in the village, and I was to conduct the service. You have to understand that I do love my vocation, but all I ever get is Sunday sermons with ever dwindling numbers turning up and of course the many funerals, but for once there was to be a wedding. And not just any wedding, but the marriage of Miss Peach, who I first met as a little girl and have watched grow up into a beautiful young woman. And I thought no, NO; I will not let this despicable excuse of a man take this away from me. One of the cues was leaning against the wall by the door; I grabbed it and entered the Smoking Room. He was still on the floor, reaching under a chair for what looked like a gun. He didn’t hear me come up behind him and bring the cue down hard on the back of his head, again and again.
I realise that the next bit is where I went wrong. From the Smoking Room window I saw Constable Teale drive up to the house, and I said this when I went to the front of the house to see what was happening. During questioning I gave my alibi as being in the Conservatory, but of course I couldn’t have seen Teale arrive from that side of the house could I? Maybe that was God’s way of seeing that justice will be served, and His punishment is that I won’t be able to perform the wedding ceremony after all.
Congratulations ProfessorSvestka, and thanks for playing. We'll be back soon with Episode 3 : Not In My Back Yard.

Great mystery Jamie!
It took me a while to go back and look at the ground-plan on page 1. Thanks again for the hint!
If there aren't any objections, I wouldn't mind giving the next mystery a go. |

Thanks guys, ProfSvestka you're in for the next one. Maybe we can do a winner stays on rule.
I toyed with the solution for a while. It was always gonna be the Reverend that did it, with the map clue but I didn't know whether to make it gun and smoking room, or billiard cue and billiard room. I decided against the last one, as I thought someone could get lucky and think either Mustard or Gold never left the billiard room and cue'd him so I abandoned that. Green, gun, smoking room was more possible until I got a vision in my head of Green sat in a chair holding the gun when Steele came in. Green saying 'You looking for this' and blowing him away seemed wrong, so I compromised.
I did want to put a bit in that led to the fact Steele realised his gun was missing, and therefore would head back to the smoking room, but couldn't make a scene subtle enough, so in the end settled for a suspect seeing him desperately search his pockets. If you had asked Mrs White she wold have told you.
I am going to keep putting a decent clue in each mystery so look out for it! But it won't be a geographical one again in the next mystery....or will it?
There will be a week-ish gap till the next mystery, its almost finished - I just need to put the clue somewhere in it.
So for now all we need is a challenger to play the Prof. |

Quick question to ProfessorSvestka.
If I didn't ask Rev. Green that question at the beginning, would you have still suspected him? |

Black - Yes, I would have still suspected the good Reverend. I didn't like the way he eavesdropped on the conversation in the Library. Jamie's clue made me look back at the map and realize that he couldn't see the drive from the Conservatory. Then I started looking at the rooms he could see from and previous suggestions to get to the Smoking Room. It was actually your question to Mrs. Peacock about hearing noises that helped me more as it eliminated the Gun and left the Billiard Cue as the most likely weapon.
