Kill the Butler: Tudor Mansion

Post by Elrond » Fri Feb 14, 2020 2:10 pm

Autumn, 1925.

John Boddy (Dr. Black) is dead.

Inspector Brown is still trying to solve the murder of Mr. Boddy. Nathaniel Seine has stepped forward to work through the probate of the Wills of Boddy and Black. In order to allow for a full investigation by Inspector Brown, Mr. Seine has placed Black's entire estate in the care of Boddy's only trusted employee: Mr. Reginald Cyngen Ash.

Ash has made clear his intention of running Tudor Mansion as usual until the final distribution of the estate is completed. Boddy and Black's friends and acquaintances have spent the past month trying to squeeze any amount of financial support out of the old butler, but in vain: he has refused to even acknowledge their plights. Instead, Ash focuses on going about his duties at Tudor Mansion until Mr. Seine's planned Will Reading on 13 January, 1927, at which time the new heir of the Black fortune will finally be revealed.

On 5 November, 1926, several of Boddy's friends agree to confront Ash while Inspector Brown is distracted attempting to keep order in Hampshire on the evening of Guy Fawkes. They gather in the Drawing Room, only to be firmly rebuffed by the butler as he continues his duties about Tudor Mansion and surrounding grounds. Instead of departing the Mansion, the guests and employees spread out, each privately committed to end the interference of Mr. Reginald Cyngen Ash once and for all.

Playable Characters (2-8):

Red: Miss Josephine Scarlet or Madam Carmen Puce
Yellow: Colonel Michael Mustard or Monsieur Alphonse Brunette
Grey: Mrs Blanche White or Lord Alfred Grey
Green: The Reverend Mr John Green or Mrs Jane Meadow-Brook
Blue: Mrs Patricia Peacock or Prince Philippe Azure
Purple: Professor Peter Plum or Lady Su Sian Lavender
Orange: Miss Amelia Peach or Rusty Naylor
Pink: Madame Rhoda Rose or Dr Eglantine Orchid

This game plays with the basic rules and mechanisms of Kill Doctor Lucky, 19.5 Anniversary Edition. Attached is the Tudor Mansion game board... Hopefully over the next few months, I'll be creating the cards to make this a fully playable spin-off/sequel to the 2003 version of Clue. It is intended as a part of the CluedoVerse created including the following official and unofficial games:

Death of Sir Hugh Black (27 March, 1914) - [Clue Master Detective?)
Cluedo Party (27 March, 1924)
Clue Mysteries (1 June-7 August, 1925)
ClueFX (8 August, 1925)
Clue DVD (September 1925-May 1926)
Clue (5 June, 1925)
Clue Express (18 June, 1925)
Clue: Kill the Butler (5 November, 1925)
Clue: Dead End (13 January, 1926)

Very cool - there's been talk before on here about combining Dr Lucky with Cluedo, so this should be interesting to follow. It's nice to see that you are placing it in the 2003 continuity. Which characters/suspects are you planning on using?

New characters (not in the official Style Guide):

Madam Carmen Puce: The Italian Head mistress of Madam Puce’s School for girls, she has come to find out why Sir Hugh’s payments to her school (originally made when she agreed to let Josephine Scarlet enrol shortly after she met Sir Hugh) have stopped.
Monsieur Alphonse Brunette: Prince Azure’s adopter father, Monsieur Brunette was an old friend of Sir Hugh but never met John Boddy.
Madame Rhoda Rose: When payments to Pinkerton Asylum stopped being made by Sir Hugh’s estate, the elderly and delusional gypsy woman was deposited on the steps of Tudor Mansion. Rumoured to be Sir Hugh’s mother who mysteriously disappeared when he was 22.
Dr Eglantine Orchid: Sir Hugh’s goddaughter returned from Switzerland after her research grant in toxic plants dried up.

Interesting that you are using multiple characters per colour - I like the use of Madame Puce as well, and the bio lines are great!

Here's a link to a review of the 19.5 Anniversary Edition, which has some nice images of the board and various pieces, cards etc, if anyone is interested. I like it's similarities to the 1970's Clue board design.

Thanks!!! This is a lot of fun! The two characters per colour is taken directly from Kill Doctor Lucky 19.5 Anniversary Edition. I didn’t create any of the characters (just a couple of the first names) - they’re all taken from official Clue versions, and I’ve just adjusted their stories to fit into the 2003 world.

Love this! Nice touch combining the different characters throughout the years, even going as far as to have Mme. Puce
