There's only one female suspect, but I think Jared Kushner and Don Jr. count ...

So, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a new forum game of "Let's Play Clue" from back in the day, where all the players submit one male and one female suspect, two weapons, and two rooms and then roleplay suggestions/disproving, etc.

I was thinking about it today, and I always had a great time guiding them along here.

I'd be for it,

though I might suggest with changing trends, nixing the one male/one female rule and just pitching whoever comes to mind. Do we really need such definitive gender guidelines anymore?

I'm down with that. It can really be any suspect folks want. We'd all just have to agree on a some sort of locale. Personally, I was thinking of going back to pseudo-basics with a mountaintop chateau full of eccentric rooms and traps like Fatal illusion.

Sounds like fun but I wonder if my command of the English language is good enough... adding drama to any of the games I've played here was hard...

Having surgery this Thursday and looking at a three-week recovery period. So I'll have PLENTY of spare time if anyone wants to game on the Clue app aswell. ;)

I'm sure we'd all be willing to help you out! The game is effectively just Clue without moving or rolling dice.

Current musings: I've noticed lately my local shops are either keeping a very small stock of Clue games on the shelves, or they're completely out of stock (most notably at my Target, where they've only got the retro '86 remake edition). Logic tells me they're probably just not restocking very quickly, but part of me wonders if Hasbro has another facelift coming for the North American edition & the shops are just not restocking until they can get that from Hasbro.

Far fetched, but not entirely unlikely. A number of Hasbro's classic games have been released with minor changes in their packaging/components in the past year, so it wouldn't be unprecedented. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they've decided to make the Clue game more closely align with the Cluedo editions (better playing pieces and more cards) or maybe even reintroduce Mrs. White in her new look.

Or the ultimate lead pipe dream: we're finally getting some kind of ultimate edition with a pile of suspects to choose from & a few new weapons to even out the deck of cards.

My pipe dream is a game where you can play with 3, 4, 5 or 6 players without people getting an unfair advantage over the amount of cards given. Unfortunately that would require 60 cards minus the ones in the murder envelope: with 3 players you would be holding 20 cards each, which isn't practical.

That could be doable though if there were rules dictating a certain amount of cards dealt around the board, and maybe a deck set aside to draw from under certain conditions.

But would that be embraced as an evolution of the classic game, or best utilized in a one-off special edition?

You could also just deal the cards out evenly, and put the remainder either face up, or face down in select rooms, which you have to visit to look at (in lieu of a suggestion that turn).

True, true... turning up a card is equivalent to removing a suspect/weapon/room and personally I think 6 is the minimum amount of variables to keep the game interesting once you have good players.
Viewing a card in lieu of a suggestion isn't all that practical with the Dutch rules I'm accustomed to...

I love the computer game Foul Play (Moordspel in Dutch) which is basically hidden object in a nice English country house (Holker Hall): if I turned it into Clue it would be six suspects, 8 weapons, 7 times and 14 rooms. Would require 35 cards, manageable even with three players. Then it wouldn't be such a difficulty to spare out a few cards.
