This is simultaneously questionably conceived and everything I've ever wanted in my life. Miles and Stan as Green and Mustard?

Wow. I can't even imagine that anyone would be doing this. Does the show do that well in syndication? Is it in Netflix? I haven't seen the Golden Girls in years, and for the most part is only going to appeal to a limited, select group of customers ... I mean one would assume that kids would have to be a large part of any potential audience for the game -- are today's kids watching this show? Maybe Betty Whites recent resurgence has given a boost to this show? So strange ...

Golden Girls has definitely had a resurgence among young people in the last few years. It started with television reruns on Logo, Hallmark, and WeTV, and then the DVD release of the series. The show is also now completely available on Hulu, which has added to its popularity. I think much of its more liberal-minded content has found resonance with my generation in particular.

To that end, I certainly think there's appeal. Comic Con had a Golden Girls action figure exclusive last year. And a fan Lego set met with quite a bit of viral approval: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/98263

Two people have sent me a link to this in the past 12 hours, lol. As ridiculous as it is, it's one of the few themed/branded Clue games in recent years to have any kind of charm (to me, at least), and I'll probably add it to my Christmas list.

But yes, MBD, Golden Girls has got some weird resonance with the millennials/younger crowd. A friend of mine has been bingeing the show lately, and she's even started to collect the big-headed, vinyl figurines of the 4 ladies. I don't know why the show has seen such a surge in popularity, but I'd be willing to agree with all the reasons suggested so far.

I do wonder if the box is just a mock-up, though. It's a bit "meh," and it's been a long time since any of these themed games have used the classic logo (not that I'm sad to see it; the old school logo suits an edition like this one).

But who are the two faceless men? That's a first in Clue, no?

Looks like Miles, Rose's boyfriend, as portrayed by Harold Gould, and Stanley, Dorothy's ex-husband, as portrayed by Herb Edelman. It's possible there was trouble licensing their likenesses and they resorted to this half-arsed version. Or that the licensor, either from the show itself or the actors, has just not approved their images in time for early promotion and that they will be appropriately "filled in" prior to release.

Something similar happened with this Harry Potter Clue knock-off. I don't know if finalized artwork ever really made it to print, however: https://boardgamegeek.com/image/211592/harry-potter-and-sorcerers-stone-mystery-hogwarts

I also back the Evil Dead 2 board game Kickstarter, and it's running into delays at the moment due to the amount of scrutiny legally required for every image depicting Bruce Campbell's face. So it could be something like that, and they're still covering their bases.

Additionally, the ladies' images are all based off official production stills:
http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/goldengirls/images/4/4e/Beaarthur_%281%29.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20101208103602
http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/goldengirls/images/6/6d/9959_rue-mcclanahan.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20101208104040

The men's are not and would have been created "from scratch" in that regard. I can't really tell if they're meant to have the same "paint" effect as the cover art, but it could account for a final version delay.

Both actors have passed as well, so I'm not sure how posthumous licensing would work if not based on photos the studio owned and could license.

My copy of this arrived yesterday. I haven't had the chance to go through it yet, but I will post some pics later. The male characters are identified as Stan and Miles, but their faces are still blacked out in the final product, likely due to some licensing restrictions, I imagine.

Great! Thanks! I am absolutely floored that the men's faces are blacked out. Well I guess we can't claim false advertising. I wonder if they ever intend to straighten this out?

I guess the only positive to this is how easy it would be to print out stickers of those characters and paste the faces onto the tokens ...
