THE GRANGE

OUTSIDE:

The formal gardens extend from left of the Trophy Room, up and round finishing to the north of the Ballroom.

The driveway to the Grange starts top right of the plan, coming down past the study, smoking room, billiard room and lounge, finally coming round to in front of the hall.

CHARACTER BIOS

THE ORIGINAL VILLAGERS

Miss Katherine Scarlett
Her parents were killed in a car crash when she was a child, her godfather and father’s friend, Dr Black become custodian. She had her unruly moments during her teenage
years, and having inherited her parents money on her eighteenth birthday has no need to find employment. She spends that money on enjoying herself and looking good,
both for her and whichever young man she has her sights on at the time. Having always had her own way, maybe she’ll stop at nothing to make sure she gets what she wants.

Colonel James Mustard
Despite an exemplary military career, an operation that went badly wrong meant he was discharged from the army a few years before retirement, but still achieved full pension.
Many of the ladies of the village have their eyes on him, all apart from the one he carries a torch for, Mrs Peacock. Just how far would he go to protect the woman he loves?

Mrs Mary White
The housekeeper of Arlington Grange was kept on by Mrs Peacock after the death of the previous owner, and Peacock’s brother in law Sir Mort. Because of this she is
fiercely loyal to Mrs Peacock, and the young ladies that also reside in the Grange. She has been fond of the odd alcoholic beverage, ever since the death of Mr White five years ago,
and now that she is on her own the thought of losing her job frightens her greatly. But would she kill to ensure her lifestyle doesn’t change?

Reverend Stephen Green
Vicar of the parish, Reverend Green is the man people turn to and the shoulder they cry on in an hour of need. He is a great friend to Mrs Peacock, and a confidante of Mrs White.
He strives to look after the wellbeing of the village and villagers, but in doing so, would the man of the cloth ever break one of the Ten Commandments?

Mrs Virginia Peacock
Mrs Peacock inherited Arlington Grange upon the death of her brother in law, Sir Ralph Mort. Her younger brother Dr Black now lives with her, along with Miss Scarlett and Senorita Del’Aqua. However, a shortage of finances has recently hit home and she has decided that the Grange must start to pay for itself. She is fond of her horses and country pursuits,
and is a good shot with a firearm in her hand. Constantly social climbing, some wonder just how far she would go to preserve her reputation and status amongst the local high society.

Professor Simon Plum
A retired university lecturer in mechanical engineering, the Professor is a close friend of Mrs Peacock, and can often be found at the Grange instead of his own cluttered cottage nearby.
A bit of a scatterbrain, he is constantly coming up with new ideas for great inventions, but having ploughed his savings into previous unsuccessful inventions,
he has not got the necessary financial backing to achieve the great things he would like. Usually found with his head buried in a book, tending to the birds in his aviary or doing a crossword puzzle, this seemingly harmless eccentric hardly seems the sort to commit murder, but are appearances deceptive?

THE CONFIDANTES

Miss Jessica Peach
Young teacher at the local village primary school who is best friends with fellow teacher Mr Silver. Her inspiration to pursue a career in education was her own teacher,
the late Lily Mort, sister of Mrs Peacock and Dr Black. She is currently engaged to Constable Teale, and is said to be planning a lavish wedding.
Sure she seems quite sweet and innocent, but is there a tiger lurking underneath?

Captain Robert Brown
Former naval officer who joined the Navy as a young man, as a means of escape after the death of his childhood sweetheart. He moved into the village
several years ago upon his retirement, and has formed a healthy but strong rivalry with the Colonel. The main loves in his life are his two dogs, Nelson and Wellington, and he
spends most evenings out walking them round the village. He would have thought that his battles were behind him, but if the situation arose, the survival instinct would kick in.

Mrs Sylvia Meadow-Brook
A close friend of Mrs Peacock's, whose husband disappeared in mysterious circumstances whilst sailing on his yacht off the south coast. Mr Meadow-Brook was a lawyer,
for several important clients with secrets to hide. Maybe one of them bumped him off? Or maybe someone killed him to use his information themselves.

Lady Constance Lavender
Lady Lavender was once the secretary to Lord Lavender, until the day that his wife fell into a quarry whilst walking their dogs.
Not much time passed between that fateful day and her becoming the new Lady Lavender. One of Mrs Peacock’s closest society friends,
she now owns the Lavender estate since the death of her husband. Of course, the death of the first Lady Lavender was an accident. Wasn’t it?

Doctor Julian Black
Brother of Mrs Peacock, who has lived with her at the Grange since the expense of a malpractice suit cost him his home a couple of years ago.
He has since set up his own surgery in the village, although the locals’ assumption that Mrs Peacock invested the money to set it up is wrong.
Which begs the question, just where did the money come from?

Albert Rust (Rusty)
Since the death of Mrs Rust, Rusty has ploughed all his energy into creating and maintaining the beautiful gardens at the Grange. Loyal servant to Mrs Peacock,
he plans to keep working for her for many years, despite his imminent arrival at retirement age.

THE INFLUENTIAL VILLAGERS

Constable Alastair Teale
The only policeman for Arlington and the surrounding area, he is currently engaged to Miss Peach, having dated her for three years. He used to be in the London Metropolitan force,
until he was posted out to the countryside after an unfortunate incident where he shot a colleague. Rumours say that it was no accident. Surely as an officer of the law,
he upholds the law, and would never cross the line and break it?

Nurse Sally Mint
District nurse for Arlington who operates out of Dr Black’s surgery. She is on her own, after losing her husband a year ago and also her son who was killed while serving in the Army.
She puts the needs of others before those of herself, but sometimes has to relax with a glass or two of brandy and an evening watching trashy TV.
Would a situation ever arise where she might consider taking a life instead of prolonging one?

Mr Ian Gold
Local businessman, although not many people are exactly sure what that business is. Gold worked in partnership with Sir Mort until his mysterious death.
Just why Mrs Peacock is friends with such a character confounds the village. Local gossip says that he makes his money from shady deals and loan sharking,
and people have realised long ago that it is better to have Gold as a friend rather than an enemy.

Mayor Kenneth Fields
The recently elected Mayor of Arlington owes his success to the financial and social backing of Mrs Peacock. Just what hold over him she now has because of that is anyone’s guess.
And a lot of the villagers do guess. And they all think that it’s strange that recently many small planning permission requests have been turned down.
But Mrs Peacock’s grand extension onto the side of the Grange was immediately approved.
Did anybody else help him achieve his current status? And what will he have to do to repay such favours?

Ms Veronica Lake
Aspiring politician, she has so far kept her sexuality a secret in order to appeal to everyone in a rather old fashioned village.
Ms Lake relies on the backing of Mrs Peacock to fund her political campaigns. So far unsuccessful in her election campaigns,
she is said to be extremely determined to become a Member of Parliament, and will turn to any necessary measure to achieve her ambitions.
But how ambitious is she, and what would she do to anybody that stands in her way?

Miss Georgia Khaki
Miss Georgia Khaki is a reporter for the local newspaper, who is famously hard to shake off once she has her teeth into a hot story.
She has aspirations to be a highly successful news editor sooner rather than later, but what lengths will she go to get there fast?

THE NEWCOMERS

Mrs Monica Moss
Part time secretary at Dr Black’s surgery, Mrs Moss is perpetually single and even though is now comfortably middle aged, she still has no interest in changing that.
She has very few friends in Arlington, because the rest of the villagers tolerate her rather than like her. She is diabetic, but doesn’t let it impact on fighting for her causes.
She is a ferocious campaigner for animal rights, environmental conservation and all things ‘green’, but exactly how far would she go to protect the environment?

Mr Sebastian Slate-Grey
Mr Slate-Grey returned to the village he grew up in after completing his degree at university, and joined the local accountancy firm.
Rumours constantly circulate whether he does a little ‘creative accounting’ for a fee to certain clients.
He has developed a love of antiques, and has quite a collection. A collection that such a young man surely shouldn’t be able to afford on his salary.

Madame Marguerite Rose
Accepted by the villagers as eccentric and harmless, Madame Rose claims to be psychic, having inherited the ‘gift’ from her French mother.
No one wants to indulge her ‘visions’, but she does have an uncanny knack of predicting death in the village. Unless you believe in coincidence.
But that’s all it is right? Just a coincidence.

Mr Scott Silver
Young teacher at the local primary school, who works with Miss Peach. Although she knows about his sexuality,
he is still in the closet to most people, as well as his family. Surely the mild mannered introverted teacher isn’t capable of murder?

Senorita Maria Del’Aqua
Originally from Argentina, professional dancer Maria Del’Aqua was adopted by Sir Mort after her parents died. She has a strong friendship with Scarlett borne from their similar loss.
Sir Mort recognised her potential as a dancer and paid for special dance training, and when he died, Mrs Peacock let her move into the Grange.
She has a fiery Latin temper, that could well lead her into trouble.

Sun Ling
One of the most recent additions to the village, Sun Ling runs an alternative therapies and massage business in Arley.
She was introduced to the Arlington inhabitants by Senorita Del’Aqua, who found amazing results from Sun Ling’s medicines when she injured her ankle dancing.
Surely her medicines are totally natural, aren’t they?

Love the characters.

But reading Ms. Lake's profile. I think she would be better with a unisex name.

Alex - Jamie - Jack - Jo - Leslie etc

Welcome detectives to Cluedo. There has been another murder at Arlington Grange.

Television fitness expert and housewives favourite, Eduardo Lopez had come to the Grange to film his latest workout DVD. Unfortunately this move was not good for his health as somebody decided to kill him.

We know that the victim was killed in one of eight locations. Was it the Drawing Room, the Dining Room, the Kitchen, the Ballroom, the Billiard Room, the Library, the Study or the Gym?

And we know that one of these eight weapons was used. Was it the Dumbell, the Sweat Band, the Steak Knife, the Skipping Rope, the Frying Pan, Reverend Green’s Walking Stick, the Poison or Colonel Mustard’s Bike Lock?

And who committed the evil deed? Was it Miss Scarlett, Colonel Mustard, Mrs Moss, the Reverend Green, Senorita Del’Aqua, Mrs Peacock, Professor Plum or Mrs White?

We join Colonel Mustard approaching the Grange.

OUTSIDE THE GRANGE

Colonel Mustard pedals his bike up the path to the Grange. He stops, leans the bike by the wall and enters the back door to the Kitchen, where Mrs White is preparing lunch. He pauses by the table and places a Bike Lock down.
“Colonel no, I’m trying to make lunch can’t you put that somewhere else?” asks Mrs White. “Shouldn’t it be attached to your bike anyway?”
“It should yes, but it’s broken. The lock has jammed; I thought I could fix it while I’m here.”
“Well that’s fine, but not in the middle of my kitchen table thank you very much”, replies White handing the Bike Lock back to the Colonel.

HALL

“Mr Lopez”, gushes Mrs Peacock to the muscular tanned Eduardo stood before her, “We’re so glad that you are filming your video here.”
“Yeah well, it wasn’t my first choice lady. I’d rather be on a beach somewhere.”
“Oh” replies Peacock visibly taken aback. “Well let me show you through to the Ballroom where everything is set up.”
“Here we are” says Peacock gesturing with her arms to the cameraman and lighting engineer checking their equipment and a flustered man, that Peacock assumed to be the director, running around barking orders. The flustered man approached them, “Eddie good to see you’re finally here.”
“When do we start?”
“Give us half an hour to finalise everything.”
“Okay well I’ll go for a warm up in the Gym till then.” Eduardo walks away down the hallway. Mrs Peacock stares after him. She doesn’t hear Mrs White come from the Kitchen.
“Lunch usual time Mrs Peacock?”
“Oh Mary I didn’t see you there, yes please that will be fine.”
“Very good, is anything the matter?”
“That man, he seems familiar somehow.” Mrs White shuffles off as the front door is opened and then shut again. Mrs Peacock goes to see who has arrived and it is Senorita Maria Del’Aqua.
“How did the audition go Maria?” she asks.
“Not bad thanks Virginia I should find out in two or three days if I have got the part.
“That’s good to hear, I believe Mrs White has just gone to the Kitchen if you would like something to eat.”
“No thank you, I’ll go for a swim first.”

BALLROOM

The rehearsal for the video shoot is in full swing, which is interrupted by the Ballroom double doors being flung open.
“Animal”, shouts Mrs Moss furiously. “You disgust me. Promoting your diet pills the way you do, without any concern for the consequences.”
“Will someone get this crazy ***** out of here,” shouts the director. One of the staff takes her by the arm and leads her to the door.
“Unhand me young man” replies Moss pulling away. “I’m going, but listen Lopez, one day someone will give you a taste of your own medicine; literally.” She walks out.
“Okay guys, take a break for lunch, we’ll meet back here in an hour”, shouts the director.

HALL

Eddie is walking towards the Gym, whilst drinking from his water bottle when he almost bumps into Reverend Green coming around a corner. The vicar is limping, and walking using a Walking Stick.
“Watch it” says a grumpy Reverend Green.
“Not my fault buddy.”
“Buddy?”
“Oh sorry Vicar, didn’t see the dog collar,” says Eddie starting to walk away, before turning back to speak again. “But maybe if you worshipped your body more instead of God, you might be in better shape. I could let you have details of one of my great fitness programmes; some are designed specifically for the elderly.”
“Why you…” Green is lost for words and all he can do is wave his Walking Stick at Eddie as he disappears down the hall.

BILLIARD ROOM

Colonel Mustard is in here, the Bike Lock lying on the billiard table. Mustard has a screwdriver, and is angrily fiddling around with the mechanism. Frustrated at his lack of success he throws the Bike Lock on the floor and walks out.

GYM

Senorita Del’Aqua walks into the Gym; she is visibly surprised to see the man working out in there.
“Eddie!”
“Maria…well it’s been a while”, says Eddie putting a Dumbell on the floor.
“Why are you here?”
“I’m filming my latest video in this dump babe.”
“Well” she says sarcastically, “If it’s such a dump why film here?”
“Because I found out that you live here.” He replies smiling.

STUDY

Mrs Peacock is busy at her desk, handling a bottle of horse tranquilizer, when the door is flung open and Mrs Moss storms in, the shock of which sends the bottle rolling off the desk.
“Please Monica do come on in”, says Peacock rather sarcastically.
“Virginia how can you let that man use your house? After what he does, those pills he advertises, it’s disgusting.”
“Monica I know that you have strong feelings about such issues, but please understand that I have the house to maintain and need income.”
“So what are you saying; you won’t do anything?”
“Monica I really don’t see what…” But her words are cut short.
“Well if you won’t do anything then I will.” Moss storms from the room in the manner she entered. Mrs Peacock sighs and continues with her work.

GYM

Eddie is still having a workout in the Gym, though he is not alone.
“So….Eddie…do you think you might have room in your video for me?” asked Miss Scarlett toying with his SWEAT BAND.
“Sorry babe but we have all the backing girls that we need.” He stops and takes a drink from his water bottle and wipes his brow with a towel.
“Awww well that’s no good, I can be very appreciative you know.”
“So I hear, but I don’t think you’ve really got the look that we are going for.”
“And what is that supposed to mean?” snaps Scarlett.
“You’re gluteal muscles are just not quite as toned as people would expect from a dancer in one of my videos, no offence and all.”
“My what? Humph, well I have better things to do anyway instead of watch you flex all day long.”

LIBRARY

Professor Plum is reading quietly, when Miss Scarlett enters.
“What’s wrong Katherine?” he asks.
“Oh nothing” mumbles Scarlett looking glum, “I was hoping that I might get a part in the video.”
“Oh” replies Plum. “I take it you didn’t then.”
“No, I think he is a bit of a tease, I don’t really understand why. All he said was that my gluteal muscles aren’t as toned as they should be. Do you know what he meant?”
“It means that he thinks you have a big backside”, replies Plum continuing with his book knowing what is coming.
“He thinks what? Wait till I see him” screeches Scarlett. Just then, Eddie walks in.
“How dare you?” she screams at him.
“What?” he asks.
Plum speaks from the chair in the corner, “I told her what you said.”
“What I said? Oh I see, c’mon babe it’s not like it isn’t true.”
“I’m waiting for an apology Eddie.”
“I don’t do apologies”, states Eddie. Miss Scarlett storms from the room.
Eddie shrugs, “So Professor how are you?”
“I don’t want to talk to you”, replies Plum firmly.
“Now that’s not very sociable.”
“And why would I be sociable with you?”
“It wasn’t my fault was it? I wasn’t the one that stole your idea for the muscle toning belt. I was just used for the advertising.”
“You still made a lot of money out of my idea, money that should have been mine.”
“Give it a rest Prof; I don’t know how many times I can say it. It wasn’t my fault you stupid old man!”
Plum closes his book and throws it at Eddie, but the book only hits the Library door as he closes it behind him.

KITCHEN

Mrs White is frying some sausages for lunch when Eddie walks in.
“Would you like some lunch Mr Lopez?” asks White looking up.
“Not if this is what’s on the menu,” he replies filling up his water bottle from the tap.
“And what is that supposed to mean?” asks White defensively.
“I don’t get to have a body like this by eating fried fatty foods.”
“Well I don’t have many complaints normally; in fact Sausages a la Mary were Mr White’s favourites, when he was alive.”
“Yeah, and probably what killed him too”, muttered Eddie walking out. Mrs White hears him and slams a Frying Pan down on the worktop.

HALL

“James!” shouts Miss Scarlett seeing Mustard cross the hall.
“What’s wrong?” asks the Colonel.
“It’s that Eddie, he needs bringing down a peg or two. How about you put him in his place, maybe you could arm wrestle him or something?
“I don’t really think that’s a great idea Kate.”
“Are you afraid of the competition James?”
“Never” replies Mustard firmly.
“Well that’s settled then” says Scarlett satisfied, “Be in the Drawing Room in ten minutes.” She darts down the hall. Colonel Mustard starts to utter a few words of protest but to no avail.

DRAWING ROOM

Some of the houseguests have assembled to watch the forthcoming battle between Eddie and the Colonel, the latter is seated at a small table. Eddie enters holding a Skipping Rope from the Gym.
Miss Scarlett puts her hands on the Colonel’s shoulders, “You show him what you’re made of James”, she whispers in his ear. Mustard shifts nervously in his seat.
Eddie places the Skipping Rope on the sofa before sitting opposite Mustard.
“You can always back out now if you don’t feel confident”, Eddie says across the table. Mustard flashes a stern look back to his opponent.
“Right guys” says Del’Aqua who has taken the position of host, “Take your positions and on the count of three you can begin. One…two…THREE!”
The competitors take the strain and begin the match, which is over almost immediately, as Eddie forces the Colonel’s arm backwards, resulting in a yelp of pain from Mustard.
“Sorry old chap” laughs Eddie, “But you should really know better at your age.”
Mustard glares at him while holding his elbow.
“Shall I call Nurse Mint?” asks Scarlett.
“No Kate, you have done more than enough” replies Mustard briskly. He pushes her hand away, “I’ll be fine.”

KITCHEN

Mrs White enters the Kitchen to find Mrs Moss rummaging through the cupboard under the sink.
“You staying for lunch Mrs Moss?” she asks the rather embarrassed lady.
“Oh…err…didn’t see you there Mrs White, erm no, no thank you I won’t today”, she mumbles before leaving. Mrs White goes over to the open cupboard and picks up a bottle of Poison that was lying on its side.

DINING ROOM

Reverend Green and Mrs Peacock are finishing lunch.
“I have to say Virginia that I am surprised you let that Eduardo character film here.”
“Why? It’s part of our new vision for the Grange to help bring in more money by doing things like this.”
“Oh it isn’t that Virginia. You do know who is his don’t you?”
“Some fitness guru from the telly Stephen, apart from that I haven’t a clue. I’m not clued up on my Hispanic fitness experts.” She laughs.
“Oh dear, he’s no more Hispanic than you or I. The whole thing is a made up persona, a marketing tool, he’s probably never been to Spain or South America. For goodness sake he even grew up in this village.”
“Here in Arlington?”
Reverend Green sighed. “Yes, Eduardo Lopez used to be that little brat Eddie Tomkins, the one that would throw rocks through the Grange and Church windows.”
“WHAT?” shouts Mrs Peacock enraged, slamming her hand down on the table, scattering her cutlery.
“Sorry Virginia but it’s true.”
“Right” snaps Mrs Peacock before picking up a Steak Knife from the table and marching off.

GYM

Eddie has returned to the Gym, to clear up his belongings.
“Now where did I put my water bottle?” he wonders.

DRAWING ROOM

Miss Scarlett and Senorita Del’Aqua have stayed in the Drawing Room.
“Well Kate, I guess that didn’t exactly go to plan”, says Del’Aqua replacing the small table in the corner.
“No” replies Scarlett tidying away the two chairs. “Eddie has still got a big head, and now James is humiliated and it’s my fault.”
“He’ll get over it.”
“I’m glad you think so, I’m not so sure. I need a plan B.”
“And what is plan B going to be?”
“I don’t know Maria; I need to think about it.” Scarlett walks off.

UNKNOWN LOCATION

Someone unscrews the top of Eddie’s drinks bottle, and injects some liquid, before replacing the top and shaking the bottle.

LATER...SOMEWHERE IN THE GRANGE

“Argh….someone come quickly,” Mrs Peacock rushes from one of the rooms into a corridor. “It’s Mr Lopez, he’s dead”.

Eduardo Lopez has been murdered. But who killed him?

Was Miss Scarlett insulted enough to kill?
Or was Colonel Mustard embarrassed enough to kill?
Maybe Mrs Moss was serious about her threat?
Did the Reverend Green prove himself fit enough to kill Lopez?
Did Senorita Del'Aqua's history with the victim lead to murder?
Perhaps Mrs Peacock gained her revenge?
Was Professor Plum still angry about the loss of his invention?
Or did Mrs White end Eduardo's life?

The detectives now get the chance to question the suspects. Each detective will ask three questions alternately, one at a time. Suspects can only be asked one question in total in this round.

We'll start with Black.

Mrs. Peacock - can you tell your movements from when you took the knife to when you found the body?

You have some nerve young man, one minute you criticise my house decor and then you want my assistance!
And no I can't because I would give away the location of the body. I can say that I went back to my study to look over the contract to see if I could throw him out, but I couldn't. Then I realised I had something to do.

Sorry Black, but that's your answer! To those out of the loop, Black sent me a message saying he couldn't tell the difference between the library and the study. Mrs P was not happy.

Zoo's turn.
