this is very cool. I much prefer the 3D approach where the pawns and weapons can actually enter the rooms rather than the shadowbox under-glass approach of the RH & Frontgate designs. The room tokens look so much nicer here as well. Whats really exciting is that its 23.5x23.5 which means its back up to the size of the original Franklin Mint design!! Sadly they didn't go back to the same graphics, using the smaller ball room design of the RH edition - looks like they just blew up those graphics. And the perspective is not uniform on some of the interior room corners. But I would definitely buy one of these.

VERY disappointed that they did not correct the mistake in this edition where the center spaces outside the ballroom have been reduced to one line of tiles, while the Hall has an added row of tiles.

Question: ragstorichesfan, since you have one, what do the weapons look like? Do they match the RH revision, or did they go back to the FM designs? If the RH, are they the same tokens used in the Frontgate Bookshelf edition?

But it does look like the earlier prototype they offered, with the peg legs has been replaced with this new offering, which was discussed here: http://theartofmurder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=114643#114643

It's nice to see the bookshelf edition go into production, which was originally discussed in this thread: http://theartofmurder.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4191 - though it's not really my favorite edition.

I wonder who will carry these? Restoration Hardware and Frontgate?

Neat. I'm not sure how I feel about the Giant game though. I do like the room pieces in accessible 3-d, but I don't like the look of the legs. Nor do I think this would make a good display piece without just becoming a difficult to clean dust collector.

I don't disagree with this.

One of my complaints about the Franklin Mint game was that while the Monopoly game came with an optional glass display cover, it was not designed to sit high enough above the playing surface to allow one to "freeze" a game in progress. In other words, the playing surface had to be free of pieces and such. Neither Clue nor Scabble had this option.

This game would seriously benefit from having a glass case cover, which would not only protect the game when not in use, but also to stage or preserve a game in play. Since this will probably retail for the same price as the shadowbox games RH and Frontgate previously sold, adding a wood-framed glass cover would not amount to any more material being used and thus should meet the same price-point. I would even accept a smaller board considering that they've merely enlarged the smaller graphics from the previous edition (without correcting any of the errors). While the larger playing surface is nice, it is impractical for many homes and I would bet, most collectors, as I discovered with my Franklin Mint edition.

Well what sort of a collector are you, then?! One of my criteria for house hunting last year was that I had to have a room big enough and dedicated to my Clue collection. Razz

I like it! It's great to see the Franklin Mint art put to 2D. I don't see what's so terrible about the table legs.

what purpose do they serve, really? it looks like they've just attempted to add embellishment for it's own purpose (or to justify a higher price), but it makes it look cheap in my opinion.

For better or worse, here's the board without legs.

Hmm tough choice. I would say without legs. One thing I didn't like about the Franklin Mint is that you have to have a low table to play on, otherwise it is elevated to high up.
