Favourite Theme Songs?

Post by Jane Poirot » Wed Nov 11, 2009 8:02 pm

Exactly what it says on the tin...what are some particular theme songs that, in your opinion, are made of pure Epic Win? They don't have to be TV theme songs; they can also be themes to video games or movies.

I am of the opinion that Kevin Manthei is a musical genius. He is to video games what John Williams is to film. One of the things I love the most about the Nancy Drew games is the score; he does an excellent job at capturing the mood of the situation. He is amazing in all the scores, but my personal favourites are...

Stay Tuned for Danger (especially the Danger music):

Curse of Blackmoor Manor :

and Secret of the Scarlet Hand :

I would add more (I also especially like Treasure in the Royal Tower and Danger on Deception Island ), but sadly, some of the soundtracks posted on YouTube do not include all of the music in its fine glory.
Anyone who thinks Canadians are meek and mild-mannered has obviously never seen us during Question Period!

For once I agree with Black, the Midsomer Murders theme song is fantastic.

I also love the Halloween theme music. Which horror fan doesn't?

The more I get into anime, the more awesome theme songs I find. By far, one of the absolute BEST themes I have come across is the Umineko opening theme, both from the visual novel game and the anime.

Here is a totally awesome re-mix of the original (warning: some of the images presented might contain totally awesome spoilers, so just sit back and listen to the music):

My favourite rendition of it is the rather creepy one from Batman Returns (introduced by the chorus chanting eerily), although the theme was introduced to the world in Batman.

And although Batman Forever was guiltily entertaining, Elliot Goldenthal's rendition completely killed it.

Musically speaking, I think the best scene from a Tim Burton/Danny Elfman movie is the 'waltz to the death' in Batman (which starts rather late in this clip, around 5:02, but is still loads of fun):

Lillium, the opening theme to the anime Elfen Lied , is one of the most beautiful, haunting tunes I have ever heard. Just sit back, close your eyes, and listen to the music:

Also, here is the full opening theme for the Visual Novel of Umineko (pictures may contain spoilers):

And for the anime (character pic spoiler-ish):

TV version (just shows characters, non-spoiler):

I might've posted this before, but I love how John Williams integrates classic themes together in this clip, where essentially, the history of film is spoken through music:
