The thing is, marriage isn't necessarily an act owned under the wing of religion. It even goes further back than when many religions were established. People who aren't Christians or even deny God may still marry.

Besides do homosexuals say to each other "Will you civil union me?" Most likely not.

The way I see it, legalize homosexual marriage. If your church doesn't prescribe to that view, so be it. Your charity isn't needed anyway. Just don't go about wrecking it for everyone else. Afterall, almost everybody strives for happiness. Crushing the happiness of others just adds to your karma.

I was raised Catholic. However, I probably only am Catholic in title, and not so much in practice. I do support gay marriage fully. I understand why some people feel it's morally wrong, but I don't think it should interfere with the law.

I think there's also misunderstanding due to the mistranslations of religious text. For example, in the story about the smiting of Sodom and Gomorrah, it was more to do with gang rape and pederast rather than simply homosexuality.

Then there's tiny passages in books like Leviticus that say you cannot be homosexual. I think folks should understand that Leviticus is the ancient laws of an ancient people. Even with religious background, their main purpose was to keep general order. And like all laws, they must be updated to suit modern society.

That is true. The only thing against homosexuality in the New Testament is actually a Paulist warning about those who will not see the new Heaven, in which the 'effeminate' are included.

Facebook has replaced philosophy books as the source of the meaning to life. Yep, we're in the future. 8)

The future turns out to look so much like the past after all.

Oh. my god. When i saw that (i never watch beauty pagents, they're horrible) but i was all *flace palm* "What has California come too!?"

Me being a California citizen found this terrible. I was like "Lady, you're in California, move to the south or something, we don't need CA to be any more bigoted than its already becoming!"

Why was Perez Hilton even on the judge panel? The look on his face was hilarious when Carrie gave the answer he clearly wasn't looking for.

I only watch beauty pageant clips for the comedy.
On another note, I was surprised to hear Miley "miss-family-values" Cyrus of all people say she was in favour of gay marriage. True, it MIGHT have just been an attempt to gain some publicity, but still, it has caused me to look at her with a smidgen of respect.

So I've been reading some "old" newspapers and gay marriage is one issue debated in letters to the editor. One of the best arguments for is in a 1999 newspaper. Basically it takes the so-call passages that say homosexual relations are bad and shows that they are taken out of context to attack other groups. Several are quite vague and have been used to keep anyone out side the majority from gaining equal status. Really they warn against someone being heterosexual and using gays for pleasure as well as outlaw rape. Another comment I had to check out for myself (since I don't believe the Bible is the final word) is the infamous Leviticus laws. The laws also say that a woman should only be a slave to his husband's wishes and be a polygamist. Yeah last time I checked polygamy isn't really practiced in North America or Europe (with the exception of maybe Utah :D).

Yeah, there are a bunch of screwy laws the fundies disobey. How many times will they be more than happy to pig out on shrimp?
