Walmart - love it or hate it

Post by Michael » Tue Feb 28, 2006 11:24 pm

Okay... so this is inspired by the cheap Clue DVD thread...

What do you think about Walmart??

I'll admit... I'm probably in there every couple weeks or so to pick up something or other. They're cheap! But it's always SOO busy. I vastly prefer Target for it's cleaner, friendlier atmosphere. I'm definitely in Target at least once a week.

Walmart does get a bad rap... and I'm sure it's well deserved. They probably are the evil corporation everyone says they are. But it's only because we let them get away with it.

What do you think?

Okay, but come on... you need a garden hose... where are you going to go? If you go to the local garden supply store, it'll cost a lot more. Why waste more of your own money when you could get it cheaper? Is it the satisfaction of supporting your local retailer and sticking it to Walmart? Do you REALLY do this? What's the point?

I loathe Wal-Mart! :x

I'm a Target kid!! 8)

The ONLY good thing about Wal-Mart is that some of them are open 24hrs in case I ever had some dire need in the middle of the night. I will give them crdeit for that.

We rather just go to Canadian Tire, but even that place sucks we call it Crappy Tire.

Rarely we go to Wallymart.

I wouldn't say I loathe Wal-Mart, but I will not go in there unless forced. Target is a thousand times better. Plus, Target's color is red, what could be better than that?

Isn't K-Mart's color red too?!

But K-Mart sucks, so therefore it is not included.

Well, really, what is the difference between Walmart and K-Mart? They're both discount retailers with practically the same goods.

I suppose that's not all I can say. The topic is odd... Hating a store? How silly.

I don't think it's crazy to hate Walmart. They suck the life and spirit out of towns by crushing the competition leaving nobody off for the better. Even the employees are constantly shafted by low wages and benefits and deplorable working conditions and practices. How can you NOT hate that? You certainly can't LIKE it?!

WalMart

Post by Lord Caspen » Wed Mar 01, 2006 6:40 pm

I have no real need of Wal-Mart. I dislike corporate structures on principle, because in broad terms of effective customer service and product quality, I think the dollar for value efficiency of corporate-retailed products versus the homegrown article is illusory. All the same, if the product I want is at its best price in that den of conglomerate iniquity, I am not so self-righteous I believe going there to get it will defile me.
It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. -- Blithe Spirit, Noel Coward.
