Since my favorite edition is 1996, I would recommend that, but if I had to pick a second, I suppose I would say 1992.

Alright, I'm using fimo and wire to make the dolls. Plus fabric for clothes and possibly fake hair (or I'll construct and paint the hair).

I'm basing it around the 1992 edition. The costumes look easier to reproduce than the 1996 edition.

The packaging will each resemble a room of the mansion.

I'm wondering if I should make the weapons attached to a suspect hand, or keep them individual?

Art Proposal for “Toy Project
Matthew Chapman

The theme of the toys I will be creating will be based upon Clue: The Classic Detective Game. I will be recreating each of the 6 Clue suspects and perhaps the murder victim, Mr. Boddy. They will be based off of the 1992 edition of Clue since that’s the edition that I envision them as, plus my own interpretations added in. I will also be creating the weapons in addition to the suspects, plus the packaging will resemble the rooms.

Overall, I plan to make 7 characters at most. The suspects, Miss Scarlet, Col. Mustard, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, Prof. Plum and the victim, Mr. Boddy. My plan is to create them out of fimo and wire. I would first create a wire skeleton for each one. Then I would fill in the shapes with modeling fimo. After that I will bake them in the oven to harden. Then the features would be painted in. Perhaps the only things I’m on the fence about are the hair and clothing. I will either buy the custom materials to make clothes and hair, or I will paint them in after modeling them on the doll. Fimo will also be used to make the weapons, which will be the Knife, Rope, Wrench, Lead Pipe, Candlestick and Revolver. One will be included with each suspect.

Finally for the packaging, I plan to fashion it a way that would open up revealing one of the rooms of the mansion. A 1-dimentional picture will be inserted as lining. The rooms I’m planning to use will be the Hall, Library, Billiard Room, Kitchen, Dining Room, Conservatory, and Ballroom. Each package will be made of cardboard.

Overall, the function of these dolls will simply be collector’s items. I don’t want any flashy gimmicks with them. They will give the essence of a murder solution from Clue with a suspect, weapon and room included. The style will either be cartoon, surreal or elegant. The sketches included are only to give a basic idea of what they will look like, and hopefully, the final result will look much better as I will try to capture a good enough likeness of what they ought to look like.

The only problems I can foresee is that I never worked with fimo before, so I may have to go for a good try or two before I get it right. Another problem would have to sew out the outfits, which I don’t really how difficult it may be. That’s why I’m considering a paint job for the clothes, though it would look cheaper. Other than that however,I’m quite excited about the subject matter, and I look forward to doing the project.

I'll see if I can get some pictures.

In the meantime, I've completed Mr. Green and have started sculpting Mrs. Peacock.
