Good find! I remembered "most" of the big events and tried incorporating them into the stories I'm writing.

I've always been a fan of long stories with long journeys. The post 2002 games really fleshed out our colorful friends :)

I still remember the feeling when I found FX at Toys R Us. I was so excited by the prospect of new characters. The only characters I'd known at that time were the MD extras. I accepted Azure, Lavender, Rusty, and the Meadow-Brooks with glee and valued (and still value) them as much as I do the originals. For me, they've become a Clue staple simply because they fit the murder suspects archetypes so uniquely without repeating what has been done and without coming off as one-note personalities in correctly colored apparel.

For me, the cast works best in diversity when:

Miss Scarlet........... The Femme Fatale
Colonel Mustard........... The Struggling Alpha
Mrs. White........... The Domestic
Mr/Rev Green........... The Mobster/Crook
Mrs. Peacock........... The Widow-Socialite
Professor Plum........... The Mad Scientist
Miss Peach........... The "Good Girl"
M. Brunette........... The Con Artist
Mme Rose........... The Fortune Teller
Sgt Gray........... The Cop
Lord Gray........... The Aristocrat
Lady Lavender........... The Exotic Enigma
Prince Azure........... The Foreign Power
Rusty........... The Groundskepper
Mrs. Meadow-Brook........... The Busybody

Mr/Rev Green........... The Mobster/Crook
Rev Green — the moral authority

This is what’s missing from the US game. They’re ALL crooks. I hate that they’ve morphed Mr. and Rev. Green into a faker, which starts to blur the lines between what Green has always been, and a con artist such as Burnette. I suppose Mustard could be considered the moral Authority, or even Peacock, but that starts to redistribute attributes which the original game set up so carefully.

I have to think Hasbro is being overly cautious. Mr. Green was to me always just a savvy businessman who compromised his ethics for a deal regardless who was hurt by it. Rev. Green was always the hypocritical, morally corrupt guidepost of the community, willing to forgive for a price. Today, it seems they can’t have either a capitalist businessman, or a man of the cloth be viewed as a flawed individual lest it taint the entire lot — instead they have to be con-men posing as these archetypes to justify their nefarious behaviors.

I personally, see Peacock as more of the busybody than the widow-socialite. I guess I have the movie version/Clue children's book version ingrained in my head:)

I actually like that better. I hesitated with Green because he is very similar to Brunette in a lot of regards. In terms of the VCR games descriptions I always felt that Green was the confident tough guy that always failed, whereas Brunette was the goofy sneaky one who's plans mostly worked... or worked to a point.

But having Green be the voice of reason/moral compass makes a lot of sense. A vicar's wisdom, a thug's tips, or a businessman's guidance. It checks out fairly nicely!

I like the VCR Mrs. Peacock - she seems to reconcile both the busybody and the widow/socialite aspects.

The cold open for the September 7 episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert riffed on Clue. Interesting that they used the Clue logo from the 70s-90s, not the current one. However, the writers and production designers who work on his show probably fit in the age range for which those were the games on their board game shelves.

Clever. The White House makes for an excellent Clue backdrop. I have an obsession with that particular location myself, and started a thread about it:

I suspect you’re right that they used he Clue logo they were most familiar with, not to mention the logo used in the iconic movie. People are still discovering that movie and falling in love with it, if you can believe it.

If anyone is looking for a resource for character names for expansion games, character backstories or other projects, this digital version of Werner's Nomenclature of Colours is great. Credit to Nicholas Rougeux.

Not a bad idea, do we have a resource thread?

We have a character repository. But nothing just specifically for colors.

Actually, this ties into something I've been wanting to do. We have a character repository for character IDEAS, but what about characters that are actually canon? And maybe additionally, characters we've created we're happy letting other people use for mysteries? Or is there something for that already?

I've noticed the Russian Collusion topic is missing. Maybe I accidentally deleted it...

My apologies...

Wikipedia has a decently thorough list of canon characters. Adding the characters introduced in the book and puzzle series would make that page an exhaustive list (I think).

With all of the obscure characters being added to the Clue app/steam game.I wonder if they will ever use the updated characters in a new modern day version of Master detective.

Also from the little bits and pieces i'm slowly hearing about the new Ryan Reynolds Clue movie. I wonder if they are gonna have both Mrs. White and Dr. Orchid like they did in the comic book.
