LOL, really, what else is left? Short of changing the last names completely ... the weapons are really the only original aspect of Cluedo left.

So here we are on the precipice of the last thing to change in Cluedo, and now we see they have taken the only truly beloved, unique and patented aspect of Monopoly out of that game which is comparable to Cluedo. The thing that defines Monopoly for me. Well, the weapon tokens define Cluedo for me.

The fact Hasbro has done it once before is nothing but frightening. If I had to guess, they're gradually stripping away the heart of Cluedo, so that no one objects to future changes. Monopoly Revolution comes out a year after they re-invented the standard Monopoly board game ... so the other shoe has yet to drop for Cluedo.

Is this a real game, or did someone just combine the 1972 US board & cards with the 1983 Cluedo box. It appears to say Mr. Green on the starting space, so this seems the most logical conclusion. Still quite odd. A look at the card backs would certainly confirm.

Touche ... my biggest complaint about the roundMonopoly board game is the break with tradition with the elimination of the classic player tokens (a defining element of Monopoly), and addition of unnecessary sounds. The vertical house and hotel tracks and the narrow property slices are dumb too. The loss of dice, and money is kind of sad, but hey that's progress. But with Monopoly, at least the earliest versions were round, so there is some precedent there for an anniversary edition.

At least DTS didn't go in-the-round (there's a classic Hollywood Hills historic house that's been featured in a number of movies). I only mean a spinoff game though, not a replacement for standard Cluedo. Not sure what it would be though ... Murder in the lighthouse? The coliseum, the Pantheon, Royal Albert Hall, the Guggenheim, Monticello ... ?

I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean, the suspect pulls out a button, and says, "I left this in the Library. You see? It matches my jacket, where I'm definitely missing one. Clearly, I was in that room earlier" ...?

Mr. Slate-Gray looks rather green in that picture.

My problem with bust pawns and full figure pawns is that they never capture everything from the cards. They are cheaply made and poorly painted. Now, the character pawns from Passport to Murder seem to be detailed to the point of capturing their cards almost exactly if not surpassing the cards.

I prefer the sleek traditional pawns because they don't detract from how I envision the suspects. Also, I think of Clue in the context that the suspects pull out a blueprint of the house and try to figure out who and what was where and when. Mrs. Peacock uses one of her sapphire rings to show she was in the conservatory. Professor Plum uses one of his buttons.

While I have always wanted to see Clue FX adapted to a standard board, I think that it is the only game that can properly be used without dice. It is far easier to sneak about the grounds and slid unnoticed from the stable to the tennis courts than try to walk through the walls from the hall to the billiard room. Regardless, dice add the element of chance into the gameplay.

The weapon tokens are probably as characteristic to Clue as the characters. If anyone knows anything about the game, it's the mini wrench and the others. Even when Reinvention changed the weapons, took away the suspects' titles, changed the suspect pawns, changed the mansion rooms, and left players with only the possibility of a murder ... the weapon tokens remained. I believe that the weapons will be the last things to be removed from the boardgame.

The exception there would be in Hasbro's Family Game Night Game and Board Set. The weapons were replaced by cardboard squares with pictures of the weapons on them. That is the only instance that I know of.

I haven't completely abandoned this, I'm just working out some things to happen in the season. I updated the main page with a new image, the suspect page with links to suspects from all the seasons, and gave each season an image of one thing that represents it.

accidentally? No. Too many opportunities to change it over the intervening years. In fact, I would have expected the public to urge the change in the early days if it were truly a disparate combination. The fact the Parker perpetrated it in the US, is even more mystifying, especially considering the Western gun culture.

It was definitely premeditated.
